Desktop Replacement: an Approach to Reducing Cost, Improving Access to Data, and Enabling Clinician Mobility
June 10, 2004, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm CDT
Chris Fries, Solutions Business Management and Planning, Hewlett Packard, outlines an alternative desktop architecture that lowers desktop total cost of ownership (TCO) while raising levels of security, service quality/reliability, and ease of management. The new architecture centralizes desktop computing and storage resources into easily managed and highly secure data centers, while providing end users with the convenience and familiarity of a traditional desktop environment. It also helps maintain proper privacy controls on both patient and employee data, and assures proper storage and backup of that data. Using this new architecture, healthcare professionals can use any available client to quickly access their own patient information as well as personal desktop, leading to the timelier and more informed delivery of patient care.
