Dr. Bill McClatchey, Chief Medical Information Officer, Piedmont Health System, Atlanta, GA, facilitates a discussion to uncover various organizational approaches to using informatics and technologies to improve patient safety. Topics include the types of resources and skills needed, the reporting relationship/s of informatics professionals and the pros and cons of the alternatives, training and other formal education that has been helpful, how the processes link with other Quality Improvement efforts and structures, and what do we believe the future looks like for informatics as a component of governance and management.
