Physician IT Leaders: A New Era
December 1, 2004, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm CST
Two physician IT leaders present and discuss the evolving role of executive level physicians involved with clinical information system projects, whether that role is defined as Medical Director of Information Systems, Chief Medical Information Officer, Vice President of Clinical Informatics or other related management positions. They will describe the drivers and expected results for this role, reporting structures, responsibilities and accountabilities, characteristics of successful organizations and people in these roles, compensation issues and solutions, recruiting strategies, splitting time with clinical practice, and success factors in being a “multi-lingual translator” between clinicians, IT staff and executive management. Speakers: Lyle Berkowitz, MD, Medical Director of Clinical Information Systems, Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group (NMPG), Chicago, and Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine, Northwestern University Medical School; and Michael Shabot, MD, Medical Director, Enterprise Information Systems and immediate past Chief of Staff, Cedars Sinai Health System, Los Angeles.
