SUMMARY:WEBINAR | Towards the Equitable Use of Machine Learning and Algorithms in Healthcare
DESCRIPTION:Anjali Jain\, MD\, Medical Officer for the Division of Evidence-Based Practice\, Center for Evidence and Practice Improvement\, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)\, and Juan Rojas\, MD\, Coggeshall Instructor of Medicine in the Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care\, University of Chicago Medicine. Recent reports have highlighted the role of algorithms used in healthcare\, including those developed using artificial intelligence and machine learning\, in perpetuating racial/ethnic and other disparities in care and outcomes.  Drs. Jain and Rojas discuss the topic and several efforts to identify and mitigate such biases.  Dr. Jain describes the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s (AHRQ’s) evidence review on the topic and the results of a Request for Information (RFI) about awareness\, impact and potential solutions to mitigate bias and improve disparities.  Dr. Rojas presents a health system strategy to evaluate for and mitigate biases resulting from machine learning models.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR | Leveraging Analytics to Engage Providers in Performance Improvement
DESCRIPTION:Morgan Bradham\, MBA\, Vice President of Operations\, Palmetto Primary Care Physicians\, and Brad Crater\, RN\, MBA\, Senior Director Product Strategy\, Optum. Join Morgan and Brad as they share tactical approaches to leverage data to improve provider performance. Given the wide array of data available to help providers manage population health\, it can be challenging to decide which actions have the highest impact on performance. Discover how Palmetto Primary Care Physicians used analytics to engage physicians in performance improvement through provider scorecards\, utilization management\, provider education and risk stratification.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR | Predictive Risk Stratification: Using Analytics to Empower Change with Actionable Workflows Description
DESCRIPTION:Melissa Welch\, MD\, Chief Medical Officer\, Health Catalyst. Effective population health initiatives are challenging to implement for a variety of reasons. Care teams are already overburdened\, and healthcare data is challenging to aggregate and analyze. These factors make it difficult to accurately identify patients who are high-risk or have rising risk for poor outcomes and provide appropriate intervention. To manage patient populations effectively and efficiently\, healthcare organizations must be able to automate predictive risk stratification based on claims data\, clinical data\, and social determinants of health data. When care teams know which patients need the most help\, which patients have rising risk\, and which patients are healthy\, they can focus their valuable time where it’s needed most. In this webinar\, Dr. Welch shares best practice strategies for utilizing analytics that empower change with actionable workflows to ensure that clinically integrated entities can manage high-risk populations appropriately\, while also caring for those with rising risk\, and engaging with healthy population.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR | Intelligent Infrastructure is Key to Unleashing Pharmacy Transformation
DESCRIPTION:Jillian Foster\, PharmD\, MBA\, FACHE\, FASHP\, System Pharmacy Service Line Administrator\, Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation\, Memphis; Allen Flynn\, PhD\, PharmD\, Director of Masters in Health Informatics Program\, Assistant Professor\, Department of Learning Health Science\, University of Michigan Medical School; and Ken Perez\, Vice President\, Healthcare Policy and Government Affairs\, Omnicell.  The management of the United States’ massive prescription drug spend is plagued by inefficient\, manual processes and errors which exact enormous human and financial tolls on society.  These problems are being exacerbated by the serious\, widespread healthcare labor shortage as well as the rising demand for care.  Intelligent infrastructure—spanning a variety of automated medication management systems\, data intelligence\, and expert services—offers a viable\, sustainable strategy to address these issues by fundamentally transforming pharmacy care.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR | Enabling Nurse-led Specialized Virtual Care in the Home at Stanford Health Care
DESCRIPTION:Gretchen Brown\, MSN\, RN\, ACNIO\, Stanford Health Care\, Samuel Thomas\, MD\, MS\, CMO\, PocketRN\, and Mirini Kim\, DNP\, RN\, CPNP-PC\, Director of Nursing\, PocketRN. In January 2021\, Stanford Health Care Nursing Administration and the Stanford Medicine Catalyst team partnered with PocketRN\, a virtual nursing platform\, to enable Stanford nurses who were working part time or unable to work in-person to provide nurse-led specialized virtual care in the home. Through an IRB-approved clinical study in the Stanford Advanced Wound Care Clinic and the Stanford Vascular Clinic\, this collaboration aimed to mobilize and improve the ability for a pool of internal Stanford nurses to work at the top of their license; to improve retention of retiring\, part-time\, and family or medical leave nurses; to reduce the workload of in-person nurses; and to provide increased access to high quality specialty-matched care for Stanford patients and their informal caregivers. In this presentation we will discuss system-level value creation through nurse-led virtual care delivery\, digital health implementation strategies to integrate virtual care into existing clinical workflows\, and how to address nurse burnout and retention challenges – relevant to the national nurse staffing crisis.
