SUMMARY:WEBINAR | Age Technology to Address the 'Silver Tsunami' Amidst Clinical Staffing Shortages
DESCRIPTION:Carina Edwards\, CEO\, Quil.  The number of seniors in the U.S. is expected to double – to 95 million – over the next 40 years. Despite this looming “Silver Tsunami\,” we still aren’t doing enough to provide solutions – either to seniors or to their caregivers. At the same time\, the healthcare industry is also facing a critical staffing shortage that threatens to dry up the pipeline of paid caregivers. Given this demographic shift\, we must activate the unpaid caregivers – the family and friends that are supporting these seniors – to make sure they’re equipped to This glaring need – to support both seniors and their unpaid caregivers amidst ongoing staffing shortages – has created an acute market opportunity. Are technology providers ready to deliver the tools necessary to strengthen the care relationships between seniors and caregivers?

SUMMARY:WEBINAR | Preparing for the Next Generation of EHRs
DESCRIPTION:Marc Perlman\, Managing Director; Bharat Sutariya\, Managing Director; and Chris Harris\, Deloitte. Electronic health records (EHRs) first replaced paper medical records in the 1960s\, and have made much technological progress since: moving from punch cards\, magnetic tape\, and floppy discs to today’s cloud computing. The format of taking a patient’s medical history has also changed\, from problem-oriented medical records to the more modern subjective\, objective\, assessment\, and plan (SOAP) note. Despite the progress\, the full potential of EHRs often continues to be elusive for clinicians\, consumers\, health systems\, and the health care system as a whole. This research includes a survey of health system CIOs and innovative thinkers on how EHRs can and should evolve.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR | Developing an Analytic Process to Help Address Social Drivers of Health at The MetroHealth System
DESCRIPTION:Nabil Chehade\, MD\, MSBS\, Interim Chief Executive Officer; Executive Vice President\, Chief Population and Digital Health; James Misak\, MD\, Assistant Professor\, Institute for H.O.P.E.; and Kevin Chagin\, MS\, Manager\, Advance Analytics & Data Operations\, Institute for H.O.P.E.\, The MetroHealth System. The Greater Cleveland area has some of the best health care institutions in the world. Yet it also has some of the worst health outcomes across its population. In 2022\, Cuyahoga County ranked 11th\, out of 88 counties\, for clinical care and 82nd in quality of life and social factors. Across two local ZIP codes\, just five miles apart\, residents have a 23-year difference in their life expectancy. In 2019\, The MetroHealth System’s Institute for Health\, Opportunity\, Partnership and Empowerment (H.O.P.E.TM) was founded to identify social drivers of health (SDOH) within the MetroHealth patient population and to address health-related social needs. \nMetroHealth has developed an approach to understand the SDOH impact on their patient population\, e.g.\, who is at risk\, what risks are being experienced\, and how these risks impact medical comorbidities\, treatments\, and hospital utilization\, starting with a screening process organized through their Institute for H.O.P.E.TM and using a variety of means: community health workers\, social workers\, and care coordinators; in person or via a paper-based or electronic interface at the point of care; through secure online health management tools (MyChart); and at hospital events (i.e.\, COVID vaccine clinics and the Minority Men’s Health Fair). These screens were then merged and connected to patient demographics\, geospatial location\, healthcare characteristics (primary care location\, payer status\, etc.)\, comorbidities\, clinical and laboratory data\, hospital utilization data (ED visits\, hospitalizations\, appointment no shows\, etc.) and publicly available data (US Census)\, and a dashboard was created to highlight key findings and tell the story of how SDOH impact the community. Join the MetroHealth team to learn more and to hear how these processes are generating insights to support novel research protocols\, support funding of pilots and programs\, and inform decisions on effectively addressing the social needs in their patient population.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR | Ochsner Health’s Healthy State by 2030 Collective Impact Initiative
DESCRIPTION:[vc_column_text]Leonardo Seoane\, MD\, Executive Vice President\, Chief Academic Officer\, Ochsner Health and Interim CEO\, Ochsner LSU North Health System. Ochsner Health has taken to heart its commitment to improve the health status of the communities it serves. Their vision is bold – to advance Louisiana’s state health ranking to the top 40 by 2030 in America’s Health Rankings – and their approach is profound – to enlist all the stakeholders across the state in making this goal a reality. Louisiana’s Healthy State by 2030 initiative is a working example of how a health system can effectively utilize a collective impact model to improve the health ranking of a state. Healthy State by 2030 is driven by a comprehensive strategy to enhance healthcare access\, improve health equity and health outcomes\, by partnering with business leaders\, educational institutions\, community members and others\, coordinated through a statewide Healthy State advisory board and a network of local community councils. Together\, these community resources are enacting plans to reduce child poverty\, smoking\, obesity\, low birth weights\, cardiovascular and cancer deaths\, as well as chronic conditions such as diabetes\, high blood pressure and COPD\, and to address non-clinical issues that impact public health\, including income inequality\, food insecurity\, workforce development and broadband access. Join this exciting discussion to learn more and to share your experiences about the role of today’s health system in addressing the social factors that impact health. \nRelated Website Resources: \n\nWho will lead the charge to improve the state of health for Louisiana by 2030\nLoyola University and Ochsner team up to combat nursing shortage\n\n[/vc_column_text]

SUMMARY:WEBINAR | Lessons Learned from an EHR Annual Report at BayCare
DESCRIPTION:Alan Weiss\, MD\, MBA\, FACP\, VP & CMIO\, BayCare Health System. Besides the clinical team\, the EHR is the most important clinical tool used by large health systems. While most of these health systems put out an annual report discussing patient care statistics along with reviewing finances and operations\, rarely is the EHR mentioned. BayCare set out to understanding how its EHR is being used to help improve clinical care\, increase adoption of leading practices\, and address critical safety and quality issues. The comprehensive assessment provides important lessons for organizations\, for EHR development and for the field of informatics.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR | Note Quality in the EHR Era at BayCare
DESCRIPTION:Alan Weiss\, MD\, MBA\, FACP\, VP & CMIO\, BayCare Health System There is controversy about whether electronic health records (EHRs) improve the quality of notes.  While some people believe that these notes are more complete\, other find the notes harder to read.  Have we traded illegible hand-writing in the paper world for bloated and poorly formatted notes in the electronic one?  The purpose of this presentation is to explore studies and data on both sides of this issue as well as present solutions to improve note quality. Dr. Weiss reviews the purpose of physician notes; demonstrates how there are disagreements about EHR note quality and show how quality can be judged using proven tools; discusses the advantages and disadvantages of Copy and Paste; and illustrates the dangers of note bloat and its causes.
