As Chairman of the Department of Medicine, he has led the development of a new model for training residents with significant focus on ambulatory or primary care internal medicine, hoping to attract more residents into the practice of primary care internal medicine.

Much of his time is also spent on patient safety initiatives for Mercy Hospital St. Louis. He assumed responsibility for the larger health system as Chief Quality Officer for Mercy Health in Chesterfield, Missouri in June, 2014.
