Hardeep Singh, MD, MPH

Hardeep Singh, MD MPH is a Professor of Medicine at the Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety (IQuESt) based at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and Baylor College of Medicine, Houston. He leads a portfolio of multidisciplinary patient safety research in improving the use of health information technology and reducing diagnostic errors. His research has informed several national and international patient safety initiatives and policy reports, including those by the National Academies, CDC, NQF, AMA, ACP, AHRQ, OECD and the WHO. He has worked with the WHO on their recent Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021-2030 and serves as a nominated member of National Academies’ Board of Health Care Services. He has received several prestigious awards for pioneering work in the field, including the AcademyHealth Alice S. Hersh New Investigator Award in 2012, the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) from President Obama in 2014 and the VA Health System Impact Award in 2016.

                  Dr. Bonny Chen serves as the Vice President & Chief Health Information Officer for AMITA Health and Regional Chief Medical Information Officer for AdventHealth.  She earned her undergraduate degree and MD at the University of Michigan, completed her transitional residency year at the University of Hawaii, and her Emergency Medicine residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago.  Prior to her current role, she worked as an Emergency Medicine attending physician at the AMITA hospitals and served as the Chief Medical Officer at Adventist Hinsdale and La Grange Hospitals.                       Michael Ross, MD, FAAP, FACMI

                      Michael Ross, MD, FAAP, FACMI, is the Medical Information Officer for Northern Light Health – Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC), and a practicing General Pediatrician in Bangor, Maine. Dr. Ross splits his time 60/40% between Medical Informatics and General Pediatrics. Dr. Ross graduated from his pediatric residency at Tufts-New England Medical Center in 2003 and has been practicing in Maine since that time. From 2009-2014, Michael served as the co-chair of the Maine branch of the American Academy of Pediatrics quality improvement committee and was the primary clinical consultant for the Children’s Health Insurance Program Re-Authorization Act (CHIPRA/IHOC).

                      As a lead Physician of EMMC Pediatrics (2011-2015), Dr. Ross pioneered practice and system-wide improvements in pediatric care with a focus on health care delivery through maximizing the benefits of the Electronic Medical Record. In 2015, Dr. Ross combined his love of healthcare technology and outpatient medicine by accepting the role of Medical Information Officer of the outpatient practices of Eastern Maine Medical Center. In 2018, Ross was promoted to his current position as Medical Informatics office for all EMMC and its affiliated practices, supervising a staff of 8 physician clinical informatics champions across a wide swath of specialties.

                      Dr. Ross is board certified in Pediatrics (2003) and Medical Informatics (2015). His clinical interests include enhancing EHR adoption and education, maximizing primary care Computerized Decision Support (CDS), and empowering provider use of technology to enhance the connection with the patient.  Michael is a veteran of multiple EHR go-lives, having lead implementations in the ambulatory and hospital setting, including a large Cerner system-wide ambulatory rollout of 150 practices.

                              Luis Saldaña, MD, MBA, FACEP

                              Dr. Saldaña is the Vice President, Clinical Strategy, for Zynx Health, a division of Hearst Health. Previously Dr. Saldana was the Chief Medical Informatics Officer for LogicStream, and earlier in his career he served as CMIO at Texas Health Resources (THR) where he led the application of key technologies, such as the electronic health record system, to drive optimal care within the Arlington-based health system. He was also responsible for ensuring clinical data was leveraged to improve patient care and operational efficiency.

                              Dr. Saldaña was named by Becker’s Healthcare as one of “32 CMIOs to Know” and recognized as one of 25 CMIOs to know by Health Data Management.

                              A frequent presenter at national forums on Healthcare Informatics and Clinical Decision Support, Dr. Saldana has been involved nationally in Performance Improvement, EHR and Clinical Decision Support initiatives; he co-authored the HIMSS book of the year, “Improving Outcomes with Clinical Decision Support: An Implementer’s Guide”, which has been widely recognized as a definitive reference for CDS best practices; and he was an Associate Editor of the HIMSS book, “Improving Medication Use and Outcomes with Clinical Decision Support.”

                              Dr. Saldaña is a graduate of University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, and received his MBA from Southern Methodist University’s Cox Business School.                                 S. Nicholas Desai, DPM, MBA, FACFAS

                                Nicholas Desai, DPM, MBA, FACFAS is the enterprise Chief Medical Information Officer of Houston Methodist and a practicing physician in the Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group in Houston, Texas.

                                Dr. Desai is a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon and tenured healthcare executive with experience in large-scale integrated delivery networks. As CMIO, his primary focus is serving Houston Methodist physicians and staff, providing digitally innovative tools that promote efficiency and allow clinicians to focus on patient care. His overarching goal is to help clinicians leverage digital IT solutions that make the “P2P” (physician-patient) experience simple, mobile and intuitive. Desai has led large scale IT clinical implementations across various health systems with strategic focus on clinical transformation and financial stewardship as we shift from volume to value-based care. Most recently, Desai was selected to the inaugural class of Modern Healthcare’s Top 25 Innovators.

                                From a clinical perspective, Desai has been practicing at Houston Methodist for over 11 years in combined administrative and clinical roles with a subspecialty care focus on adult and pediatric foot and ankle surgery. Desai remains active in clinical research with a specialized lower extremity focus with respect to cardiovascular disease, limb salvage, biomechanics and reconstructive foot surgery.

                                Prior to joining Houston Methodist, Desai was at Memorial Hermann, where he served in both clinical and administrative leadership roles, including Chief of Surgery, Vice President of Medical Staff and Regional Medical Director of Information Technology. While at Memorial Hermann, key focus areas included design and implementation of Cerner Millennium Application Suite (Care4), development of clinical workflows and order set enterprise standardization, development of medical device integration standards, implementation of cost efficiencies in OR throughput and achievement of Leapfrog Safety recognition.

                                At his core, Desai is a physician first but is also a passionate investor, entrepreneur and incubator for early stage and small to mid-sector healthcare firms. He has led many private equity and JV relationships across the Texas, New York and California markets. To date, Desai has been involved in several large-scale healthcare technology startups that have led to either M&A or IPO targets.

                                Desai is an avid oenophile, father of two and enjoys golf, tennis and travelling. He is a philanthropist at heart, supporting charities involving multiple causes across the US and abroad.
