WEBINAR | Suicide Safety: People, Practice, Process and Technology at IU Health
October 4, 2022, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm CDT
Mary Drewes, MBA, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, VP & Associate Chief Nurse Executive; Alexia Oaks, BSN, RN, Program Director, System Nursing; Jodie Johnston, RN, MBA-MHA, CPHQ, System Improvement Leader; and Katie Flamion, System Improvement Leader, IU Health. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. with an average of one suicide every 12.6 minutes. Indiana University Health, a 16-hospital system activated a team of nurses, providers, and other key stakeholders to assess the workflows for screening, assessment, intervention, and discharge of patients at risk for suicide. The collaboration resulted in the co-creation of a standardized future state process leveraging emerging evidence and leading practices. The team successfully completed a system-wide implementation in all Emergency Departments, Inpatient, and Procedural areas. Responsibility assignment matrix (RACI) tools and ADKAR change management principles positively impacted adoption, the people side of the change.
