David C. Kibbe, MD MBA, Director, Center for Health information Technology, American Academy of Family Physicians, Chapel Hill, NC. Dr. Kibbe explains that, around the country the idea of the “cheap RHIO” is beginning to catch on, particularly among physicians and communities that don’t need a high-cost, high complexity solution inherent in some centralized RHIO projects, or that want a simpler approach involving personal health records (PHRs). A “Personal Health Information Infrastructure” is described and recent advances in this area discussed.
