SPECIAL 30th ANNIVERSARY EVENT
Today’s healthcare ecosystem is constantly evolving, and for health systems it’s far less about winning and losing than it is about morphing and improving continually. Health organizations now have an infinite number of options, opportunities…and responsibilities: So how do we, especially in non-profit systems, many faith-based, maintain our mission to serve our communities comprehensively while remaining current on today’s technology, medical breakthroughs, and consumer experience expectations? What are our unassailable assets—our community crown jewels—that we can reimagine, redefine and reorganize in a new world of digitally enabled, collaborative, equitable and consumer-centered “primary health?”
How do we instill rigorous financial and operational discipline within while discerning trusted partners and collaborators without, moving far beyond a zero-sum mindset into countless, collaborative possibilities? Join us for the special 30th Anniversary Conference to discuss these topics.
Overview
What can you expect from the SI Annual Conference? This is a panels-only conference with moderated debrief discussion groups for collective sense-making, candid conversations about lessons learned, plenty of time for informal networking, and an earnest desire to collaborate with peers to solve the truly tough issues of building and operating the health system of the future.
Who Should Attend
This invitation-only conference is an interactive experience for SI Member executives. SI conferences are intimate sessions, designed for C-Suite executives (management, information and security, analytics, innovation, transformation, strategy, operations and finance), member officers, board members and other business and clinical executives who would benefit from peer collaboration, information sharing and networking.
Our approach is more “participation” and less “presentation,” so come prepared for relaxed, informal and highly interactive discussion with senior management teams from other leading health systems.

Virtuous to Vicious: Healthcare in Jeopardy
Keynote: TBD
Moderated Audience Q&A
U.S. healthcare has moved into a vicious cycle marked by intensified competition and noticeable acrimony between major players. Growing tension between major health insurers and health systems is illustrative. Virtuosity to insurers is predicated on the core belief that keeping providers honest and care affordable is their domain; its vicious pursuit is to attribute unsustainable health costs to hospital inefficiency and price gouging. The virtuous cycle for hospitals is premised on community health and provision of services to those unable to pay; the vicious cycle is the unwelcome intrusion of insurers and private investors who put profit above all else by paying them less so they can keep more.
It’s clear the system has made the transition to the vicious cycle. And economic conditions will make it more intense: the Federal Reserve Bank anticipates real GDP will be +1.8% this year and near zero in 2023. Inflation will remain high, eviscerating wage increases, and consumer confidence, already at a 30-year low will drop further. The vicious cycle imperils the moral high ground enjoyed by this industry for a hundred years. It will accelerate policies that level the playing field and intensify populist reforms like price controls and affordability.
It’s a critical time for this industry, especially health insurers and health systems. Is common ground achievable or the acceleration of the vicious cycle inevitable? And how will the greater good be served if the vicious cycle leaves the system in ruin?
It’s time for an adult conversation about the future of the system. It’s unclear and in jeopardy.

Strategic Dimensions to Solving our Healthcare Workforce Crisis
Possible Discussion Questions:
- What is involved in “right-sizing the American healthcare workforce? What role does “self-care” play in this new era of healthcare management? What role does technology play in designing new ways for deploying a shrinking clinical workforce?
- What do you think are the keys to addressing talent pipeline growth, e.g., nursing and medical education, CHWs, other credentialing movements, new curriculum development incorporating tech, leveraging “mentors” to new staff, more collaborative care team models
- How do we address clinical staff retention, and workforce redesign, e.g., “working at the top of our license,” increase engagement, create quality environment, reduce stress, reduce workplace violence, enhance staff safety?
- Where can technology play a stronger role in supporting our caregivers, simplifying the workflow, or enabling more patient self-care? Where has technology been effectively deployed to streamline documentation, support staff scheduling, engage consumers?
- What are emerging roles that will support new models of care delivery and lower overall cost of care? Where are the bottlenecks?
- How does technology play a role in educating, motivating, and managing the next generation of our clinical workforce?
